Reading a slot paytable: symbols and feature rules

Understand the information in a slot paytable, check symbol and feature conditions, and distinguish a displayed payout from a promise of winning.

Start with the information screen

The artwork on a reel is only part of a game. Before using a slot, open its own information or rules screen and check that the game title matches what you intended to view. Read the current rules rather than relying on a promotional image or a description of a similarly named title. The M2 Slots page is a category entry; this article explains how to examine information once a particular game is available to you.

Identify the units and the winning pattern

Look for the stated basis of a payout: currency, credits, a coin value or a multiple of a particular stake. Read the heading above the table and the notes beneath it. Next, check what arrangement qualifies. Ask whether symbols must appear on a specified line, in a particular direction, or under another rule. Do not transfer a rule from one title to another.

Read feature conditions separately

Triggers and exclusions

A feature name is not a complete explanation. Find the exact trigger, the eligible symbols and any stated restrictions. If a rules screen uses terms such as wild or scatter, check their definitions in that screen. Which outcomes do they apply to? Are some symbols excluded? A visible feature label alone cannot answer those questions.

Use a short reading checklist

Confirm the title and version shown, the units used, the qualifying arrangement, the feature trigger and where the full rules can be reopened. On a phone, enlarge text if necessary and read one section at a time. A screenshot of a large payout does not show the frequency of that outcome, and no symbol picture guarantees a result.

Stop when information is unclear

If essential text is missing or cannot be read, pause instead of guessing. Keep the game title and a description of the unclear rule for a support enquiry, without sharing account passwords. Use the M2 FAQ for site-level questions and the game’s own rules for its mechanics. This reading method does not calculate a specific game’s RTP or recommend a stake.
